Candidates Forum...Once again...Ron Paul a "no show"

Last night in Victoria, The League of Women Voters and the Victoria Television Group hosted a Political Candidates Forum. This allowed all the candidates an opportunity to meet and debate issues in front of voters before the March 4th primary.

I'll be completely honest for a second...I've only been in Victoria for 7 or 8 months, so the LENGTHY debates between all the candidates for County Commissioner didn't amount to a whole lot for me...mainly because I'm not aware of the issues on which they were so fervently debating. It did strike me as odd though, that there are 6 people running against an incumbent. It doesn't take much to assume...something...somewhere...obviously went wrong.

Then...the constable race...my precinct's constable is running unopposed.

So my main focus, and the entire purpose for me going last night was the US Congressional Race for the 14th Congressional District. This is turning into quite the political race. Ron Paul is the incumbent and has been Congressman for the 14th District now for 10 years. However, I believe that people are starting to realize its time to oust a "Do-nothing" Congressman like Paul, and replace him with a true candidate that has a track record of getting things accomplished. Dr. Paul's opponent (if you've read my other blogs here or on my other sites...you already know) is prominent businessman/CPA Chris Peden.

I believe, in the midst of a political race, endorsements mean a tremendous amount and carry an enormous weight. Something I find interesting is the fact that a majority of Sheriff's throughout Dr. Paul's district have endorsed Chris Peden. One of whom, Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor. Not to mention, The Galveston County Daily News and the Victoria Advocate. People in and around the city of Victoria talk about how much Victorians support Dr. Paul, however, I believe the opposite is proving true...and rightfully so.

Dr. Paul stated during a talk radio interview that his Congressional Race is his "Plan B". An obvious reference to his Presidential bid. This seems all to convenient to me. Allow me to translate this so it makes a little more sense..."To everyone contributing to my Presidential campaign...please continue to do so...so I can make an attempt at funding a Congressional Race that would otherwise be doomed." The only people he could have possibly been talking to are his Presidential Campaign finance contributors...why else would you make a statement like that to the people of the 14th Congressional District you have vowed to represent?

I have no doubt that Ron Paul was a great OB/GYN, and the fact that he delivered 4,000 babies is fantastic. What I want to know is why does that automatically make him qualified to run for Congress or President? Apparently his campaign believes this, because they put it in ALL of his political ads. They obviously believe this is something the voters should definitely take into consideration...again I ask...why?

When I'm looking for a political candidate, I want someone that is available to me, a constituent. I want someone that will take the time to listen to what I have to say, and more importantly give me a response. Some sort of communication that tells me he is on my side and working for me. Because, that's what it all amounts to. Members of the House and Senate work for us, their constituents. This is a fact that I believe Dr. Paul missed. If he hasn't missed it, he obviously doesn't understand it.

Last night there was a forum for the voters to meet the candidates...did Ron Paul show? No. Just like he has failed to show MANY times throughout his 10 year term as Congressman for the 14th Congressional District.

Dr. Paul was quick to jump to the defense of the voters saying they deserved to hear from him during the Presidential Debates...stating that he believed the voters were cheated. Dr. Paul, what about your voters at home. By not showing up last night, Dr Paul, you proved to me that the Congressional race IS in fact, your "Plan B" and it just wasn't important enough to warrant your presence.

It's no secret. I support Chris Peden 100%. He's a conservative that understands the importance of protecting the 2nd Amendment. He's a conservative that has vowed to ACTUALLY VOTE CONSERVATIVELY. Chris Peden is a small government conservative that understands to truly generate an economic boost/economic growth period...it takes putting money back in the pockets of the tax payers...the people who are going to go out and spend the money to generate the economy.

It's time for true conservative results...for a change. A conservative that will fight to get legislation ACTUALLY passed...something Dr. Paul has NEVER been able to do. So when you go into the voting booth on March 4th (or by Feb 29 if you vote early) vote for a guy that is going to put the "REPRESENT" back in "Representative" and give you and I, our voices back. As always..."this plus $1.50..."
